Mortenson, Elliott Sweep MIAC Women’s Hockey Weekly Awards

2/3/2025 1:00:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – A pair of Gustavus student-athletes earned MIAC Athlete of the Week honors on Monday, Feb. 3, as Lily Mortenson (Jr., Champlin, Minn.) and Abby Elliott (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) swept the women's hockey awards.

Mortenson registered a six-point week in a trio of Gustie wins that featured No. 1 UW-River Falls' first loss at home since Dec. 7, 2022 and a conference sweep of Bethel over the weekend, earning MIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Mortenson was crucial in the team's win at River Falls, playing in nearly half of the game and assisting a pair of goals, including the 3-2 game-winner. She took 40 faceoffs, put two shots on net, and blocked four shots from the Falcons.

Against Bethel on Friday and Saturday, Mortenson picked up two goals and two assists, scoring her team- and MIAC-leading 13th and 14th goals of the year against the Royals on Friday. She has at least a point in her last five games, and 13 total in that span.

Mortenson's 1.00 assists per game rank second in NCAA Division III, while her 1.74 points per game is third overall. Her 0.74 goals per game mark is ninth in the nation, and her 288 faceoff wins currently sits 11th overall.

Elliott had a career week for the Gusties on both sides of the ice, collecting the first multi-goal game of her career from the blue line. Elliott scored four goals in three games, and helped hold opponents to an average of 19.3 shots per game against the Gusties to earn MIAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

She now has five goals in her last four games and seven points in her last five after entering her final season without a goal. She added three blocked shots against UWRF and three shots on goal in each game.

The weekly honor is the second in for Mortenson this season, as the junior was also selected for the week of Nov. 25-Dec. 1, while Elliott's is the first of her four-year career.

Gustavus (15-4-0, 10-2-0 MIAC) returns home to host Saint Benedict (9-6-3, 6-4-1 MIAC) at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
