Lily Mortenson Named to AHCA All-America First Team

3/27/2025 8:15:00 PM

GLOUCESTER, Mass. – Gustavus junior forward Lily Mortenson (Champlin, Minn.) was named to the CCM/AHCA All-America West First Team on Thursday, March 27.

Mortenson earned the women's hockey team's 33rd All-America award, and is the 21st All-American in program history. Her selection to the first team marks the 25th time a Gustie has received the honor. This season is the fourth in a row the Gusties have had an All-American, and the fourth with a player on the first team, joining Katie McCoy '24 last season and Kayla Vrieze '23 the two years prior. She's the first forward to be named to the first team since Allie Schwab '12 and Mollie Carroll '12 in their senior seasons.

Mortenson was named the MIAC's Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in every major offensive statistical category, and earned the first All-Conference honor of her career on March 10. She was selected as one of 13 finalists for the AHCA's Laura Hurd Award, awarded to the top Division III women's hockey player in the country.

The junior enjoyed a career year, tallying 46 points on 22 goals and 24 assists. She registered 146 shots on goal and won 361 total faceoffs. Through games of March 22, Mortenson ranks third in the nation in points per game (1.64) and faceoff wins (361), fifth in goals per game (0.79) and power play goals (six), and 10th in assists per game (0.86), despite not having played in nearly two weeks. Two of her goals were game-winners and she also netted a pair of hat tricks, and was three times named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Her 46 points are the most by any Gustavus player since Schwab tallied 46 off 25 goals and 21 assists in 30 games in the 2011-12 season. She is also the first player since All-American teammate Hailey Holland '24 to score more than one hat trick in a season, and nearly doubled the point total of her standout rookie season (13 G, 13 A). Through the first three years of her career, Mortenson has scored 86 points in 82 games (1.05 per game) on 36 goals and 50 assists, which ranks 23rd in program history heading into her final year of eligibility.

Joining Mortenson on the West first team were fellow MIAC competitors Kayla Simonson and Nora Stepan from Augsburg. Three from River Falls joined the trio on the West first team, as Makenna Aure, Megan Goodreau, and Bailey Olson all earned the honor as well. Augsburg's Emily Cronkhite was named to the second team.

UW-River Falls' Olson was named the Laura Hurd Award winner, while Augsburg's Elizabeth Bauer was selected as the National Coach of the Year. Mortenson was the runner-up for the Laura Hurd Award.

The Gusties finished the 2024-25 season 21-7-0 overall and 15-3-0 in the conference and was ranked as high as No. 2 nationally in both the USCHO.com and DIII Hockey News rankings. Gustavus was the MIAC Playoff runner-up, and received an at-large bid to its 18th national tournament appearance, falling to St. Norbert (Wis.) in the first round.
