TUCSON, Ariz. - The Gustavus baseball team began its annual spring break trip to Arizona with a doubleheader sweep over Concordia-Wisconsin on Monday. The Gusties handily won the first game 10-2 before an 11-8 comeback win in the second, improving to 4-0 to start the season.Â

The Falcons got the early 1-0 lead with a bases-loaded walk in the first, but Gustie starter
Luke Siegle settled in and followed with four scoreless frames. The Gustie bats responded with three runs in the first as
Brayden Kohls hit an RBI double and
Brady Schmitz plated Kohls with a sac fly.
Ross Hebel and
Drake Siens added RBI singles in the second, while another run was scored on an error paired with a bases-loaded walk for a 7-1 lead.Â
Gustavus took a 9-1 lead in the fourth after Schmitz hit an RBI double and
Tomas Nelson plated another with a single. Concordia got one more run in the sixth, but the Gusties got it right back in the bottom half another another RBI single by Nelson.Â
Siegle improved to 2-0 on the year after tossing five innings. He allowed one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
Logan Feeney allowed one run with two Ks in his debut inning of relief, while
Michael Prosch closed out the seventh with two strikeouts.Â
Siens (2-3, 2 R, RBI. BB), Gavin (2-4. 2 R, 2 BB), and Nelson (2-4, 2 RBI) all had two-hit performances.Â

Playing as the visitors in game two, the Gusties opened the first with a run after Kohls tripled home Gavin. The Falcons answered in the bottom half with a solo shot and the game remained tied 1-1 until the third.
Chris Knowles doubled and scored on a single by Kohls. The Falcons answered again in the bottom half with a three-run homer. They added another run on a bases-load hit by pitch for a 5-2 lead.Â
CUW added two more runs in the fourth on yet another homer for a 7-2 lead. The Gusties started their comeback effort in the fifth with three runs on four hits, highlighted by an RBI single by Nelson immediately followed by a two-run single by
Joe Burns.Â
Jackson Thielen entered the game in the fourth and after allowing two runs, he kept the Concordia bats at bay for the next frame. The Gusties then took the lead in the sixth as Schmitz hit a two-run double, followed by a two-run single by Burns.Â
After another scoreless inning from Thielen, Gustavus went ahead 11-7 in the seventh as
Sam Schneider and Siens started the frame with consecutive singles, followed by a two-run double by Knowles. The Falcons added one in the bottom half and had the game-tying runner on base, but
Brevin Goetz shut the door with a bases-loaded strikeout to end the game.Â
Kohls (3-5, R, 2 RBI, 3B, SB) and Burns (3-4, 4 RBI) paced a 15-hit display by the Gusties. Thielen improved to 2-0 after 3.2 innings of relief, allowing three runs on four hits and two strikeouts.Â
Gustavus has a single game Tuesday against Minot State University.Â
