CLAREMONT, Calif. - After playing four exhibition matches throughout the week to kick off its spring break trip to southern California, No. 14 Gustavus men's tennis defeated No. 27 Mary Washington 6-1 on Friday, improving to 4-6 overall.
The Gusties earned the doubles point with victories at Nos. 1 and 2. At the top spot,
Tyler Haddorff and
Gage Gohl won 6-2, while
Dominik Knutson and
Marco Siviero claimed a 6-3 win at No. 2.
In singles action, Gohl had the match of the day at No. 2, going to breakers in all three sets. Gohl won 7-4 in the first breaker, dropped the second 8-6, and then battled for a 12-10 win in the third. At No. 1, Siviero won a first set breaker 7-4 and then went on to win the second set 6-4.
Josh Christensen, Knutson, and
Taona Mhwandagara earned clean straight set victories at Nos. 3, 4, and 6, respectively, while the Eagles picked up their lone point with a won at No. 5.
The Gusties also played exhibition matches against College of the Desert, Stanton University, Fullerton College, and Riverside City College, who is ranked No. 2 in the California Community College Athletic Association.
Gustavus concludes its spring break trip Saturday evening at No. 29 Pomona-Pitzer.
