SAINT PETER, Minn. - No. 18/20 Gustavus baseball won the first game of a MIAC doubleheader 11-5 over St. Scholastica on Thursday before game two was suspended after the ninth inning due to darkness, tied 4-4. Game two will resume at a later date as the Gusties improve to 17-4 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC.

The Gusties took advantage of a one-out error in the first inning as
Brayden Kohls scored on a triple down the right field line by
Chris Knowles. Knowles scored on a groundout by
Brady Schmitz, while
Drake Siens, who reached on a walk, scored on a single by
Luke Siegle for a 3-0 lead.

After a scoreless second frame, the Saints tied the game in the third with a three-run homer, but the Gusties quickly answered with two runs in the bottom half.
Danny Gavin led off with a double to right center and scored on a passed ball. Knowles, who was intentionally walked, later scored on a bases-loaded walk issued to Siegle.

Adam Biewen finished his day on the mound after four innings, improving to 2-0 on the season, allowing two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.

The home squad put the game well out of reach with six runs in the sixth inning. Schmitz and
Sam Schneider had two-run singles, while
Tomas Nelson and
Ross Hebel both had run-scoring hits. The Saints plated two in the seventh, but
Jacob Weckop was able to close it out on the mound.

Hebel led the Gusties at the plate, coming off the bench with a 2-for-2 performance, including a run and an RBI.

Gustavus 4, St. Scholastica 4 (suspended after nine)

St. Scholastica jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring after two hits, a sac fly, and a passed ball, but Gustie starter
Brevin Goetz settled in and pitched the next five innings scoreless.

The Gusties took the lead in the third inning with a trio of runs. Siegle earned an RBI with a bases-loaded walk, while
Isaac Becker followed with a two-run single to center.

After two more scoreless frames, Knowles clobbered his third home run of the season over the left field fence for a 4-2 lead in the sixth. The Saints were able to tie the game in the seventh, though, scoring on an RBI single and a passed ball, ending Goetz' day on the mound.

The Gusties threatened to regain the lead in the bottom half with the bases loaded and just one out, but the Saints were able to strand the bases full.

Goetz finished his day with seven innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts for a no-decision.

Sam Baker tossed a scoreless eighth, while
Benny Mcdonald tossed a scoreless ninth and the game was called at sunset.
