MADISON, Wis. - The singles play of No. 4 University of Chicago proved to be too strong Sunday as No. 34 Gustavus men's tennis suffered a 6-1 loss at the University of Wisconsin campus. The Gusties move to 12-10 overall, while the Maroons are now 15-2.Â
Gustavus had the better doubles play to start the match as
Gage Gohl and
Tyler Haddorff won 6-4 at No. 1, followed by a 7-6 (7-4) win for
Josh Christensen and
Taona Mhwandagara at No. 3 to secure the doubles point. The Maroons won 7-6 (8-6) at No. 2.Â
Chicago then stormed back in singles play, winning in straight sets in two through six. Gohl won the second set 6-4 at No. 1, but lost in the third. Knutson won his first set 6-3 at No. 4, but lost the last two 7-5, 7-5.Â
Gustavus plays as a split squad on Saturday with home matches against Saint John's and Bethany Lutheran, and a road test at Augustana (S.D.).Â
