SARTELL, Minn. – Gustavus women's golf opened their season at the CSB Invitational, hosted by the College of St. Benedict at Blackberry Ridge Golf Club. Play continues tomorrow to round out the event.

The Gusties finished third as a team on the first day of competition, behind the host Saint Benedict (+22) and Macalester (+30).

Riley Zebroski (Jr., Watertown, S.D.) led the way for the Gusties, scoring a 77 (+5) in the first round of the season. Zebroski tied her career best competition score at Blackberry Ridge, also achieved in her freshman season on the first day of competition. "I was super happy with today's results. The team played well today for the first tournament and I'm excited for tomorrow and the rest of the season!" said Zebroski.

The rest of the 'A' squad followed closely behind Zebroski, with Lauren Hubbart (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) shooting an 80 (+8), also her best career score at Blackberry Ridge. Addison Longie (Fr., Hutchinson, Minn.) completed her first career collegiate round, shooting an 83, which is also what Emily Kolb (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) shot today. Teckla Wahlstrand (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis.) also competed for the 'A' team, shooting an 85 in her first collegiate round. Overall, the Gustie 'A' team shot a 323, which is good to sit in third place after day one.

For the 'B' team, Mary Kate Hewitt (Jr., Edina, Minn.) shot the low score, finishing with an 82, including a birdie on the 16th, a 131-yard par-3. First-year Layla Mathews (Becker, Minn.) followed closely behind with an 83 in her first round as a Gustie, including the low nine-hole score of the day for the 'B' squad, a 38 on the front nine. Also competing in her first collegiate round, Sydney Lovick (Fy., Woodbury, Minn.) shot an 86, finishing third for the 'B' squad and scoring. Josie Raiche (Jr., Orono, Minn.) shot a 90 for the Gusties, which included the only birdie on a par-5 of the day for the 'B' squad and was the best score of her collegiate career at Blackberry Ridge. Overall, the Gustavus 'B' group finished with a 341.

"Pleased with our first round of the year. We definitely had some nerves right out of the gates that led to a couple of big holes, but very happy with how we responded to those stretches. We were very composed when it could've gone a different direction" said head coach Scott Moe. "We always talk about finishing our rounds and we had a number of birdies on the last five holes, which was great to see. We are right in the mix heading into the second day and I think if we can clean up a few areas and avoid having bigger numbers, I'm super excited to see where we finish. Great effort by everybody today. This is a super fun group to be around, they are determined and dedicated on the golf course, and we are very excited to see where the season takes us."

Play continues tomorrow for the final day of competition before the Gusties travel to Eau Claire, Wisconsin next weekend.
