SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team is hosting the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championship this weekend. After Sunday's matches, three of the four championship participants were clinched by the Gusties as
Gage Gohl will battle
Dominik Knutson for the singles title and the team of Gohl and
Tyler Haddorff will compete for the doubles title.
Gohl earned his way to the singles championship on Sunday by first defeating Coe's Tony Schulte 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. He then won 6-2, 6-2 over Carleton's Akshay Garapati in the semifinals.
Knutson reached the finals match by defeating fellow Gustie
Takura Mhwandagara 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and then taking down UW-Whitewater's Theo Billson 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals.
In doubles, Gohl and Haddorff defeated UW-La Crosse's Ty Schneider and Jack Hehli 8-4 in the quarterfinals. The Gustie duo went on to win 8-2 over Luther's Joao Benvenutti and Abhay Chhabra in the semifinals.
Both championship matches will be played on Monday, September 29 at Gustavus' own Wilkinson Tennis Complex. Gohl and Knutson will battle each other for the singles championship at 10:00 a.m. in the morning. Afterwards, Gohl and Haddorff will compete against Carleton's Jack Rivkin and Akshay Garapati for the doubles championship at 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon.
