NEW ORLEANS, La. - Three members of the Gustavus women's cross country team have been named USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Thursday.
First-year
Addison Enfield (Northfield, Minn./Art Education) was the Gusties' first honoree, placing in 26th at the NCAA Division III North Region Championships. The Northfield native finished with a time of 22:48.8, just six seconds behind her season best of 22:42.7.
The second honoree was fellow first-year
Anna Forbord (Northfield, Minn./Political Science and Environmental Studies) who finished in 29th place with a time of 22:54.1 at the North Region Championships.
The third and final individual selected as an All-Academic Athlete was senior
Molly Liston (Richfield, Minn./Nursing) who finished 13th overall at the North Region Championships and qualified for the Division III Women's Cross Country Championships, finishing just one spot short of All-American status. Liston finished her career with a personal best of 21:45.7, the fourth fastest time in program history.
As a team, the women's cross country team finished with the sixth highest GPA in Division III and 12th in the country overall at 3.86, coached by Brendan Huber. The GPA is the second highest in the MIAC, only behind St. Scholastica.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers.
Members of the cross country team who also compete on the track & field team are in action this weekend at the St. Olaf Invitational.
