Barnette Named NABC DIII Second Team All-American

SAINT PETER, Minn. – Myles Barnette of the No. 7 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's basketball team has been named to the 2025-26 NABC Division III All-America Second Team, the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced on Wednesday.
 
Barnette earned All-American honors after also having earning NABC First Team All-District and D3hoops.com All-Region awards in addition to MIAC Defensive Player of the Year, All-Conference, and All-Playoff Team awards after a dominant season in which he was one of the best two-way players in the nation, leading the way for Gustavus on both ends of the court as they went 27-3 overall for the fourth-highest winning percentage in the nation and had a 17.6-point average margin of victory for the third-best mark in the country.
 
The junior scored 571 points with 19.7 points per game, making the 14th-most field goals in the nation at 227 with the 25th-best shooting percentage in the country at 59.6% from the field. The offensive engine of the team, Barnette's dominance in the paint and ability to facilitate empowered his teammates around him to shoot 38.3% from three-point range for the fourth-best average from long range in the nation.
 
Barnette had 122 assists for 4.2 per game with a 2.8 assist to turnover ratio that ranks 17th in the nation. The junior led the way for a disciplined Gustavus team that led the country with just 7.6 turnovers per game while also having the second-best assist to turnover ratio (1.78) and the third-best turnover margin (9.0) in the nation.
 
Defensively, Barnette had the 16th-most steals in the nation with 72, averaging 2.5 per game to lead the Gusties' defense to force the 28th-most turnovers per game (16.67). The junior guard led Gustavus as they allowed only 66.5 points per game, which ranked 29th in the country. He also had 120 rebounds and 20 blocks on the season.
 
Barnette led Gustavus to win both the MIAC Regular Season and Playoff Championships. In the conference postseason, the junior averaged 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game on 72.7% shooting (24-for-33). In the semifinals against Augsburg, Barnette scored 21 points on 62.5% shooting (10-for-16) with three rebounds and two assists. In the championship game against Saint John's, the junior guard rose to the occasion to lead Gustavus back from a 12-point second-half deficit to win 75-66 with 29 points on 82.4% shooting (14-for-17) from the field while also having five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
 
During the NCAA Tournament, Barnette leveled up his game to average 27.7 points on 54.4% shooting with 6.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists per game, and 2.3 steals per game. In the first round against Bethany Lutheran, the junior led the Gusties with 17 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds to finish just shy of a triple double while leading the team with three steals in an 86-70 win. Against Mary Hardin-Bayler in the second round, Barnette led the Gusties with 26 points, highlighted by a second half in which he scored 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting in the final 20 minutes to lead a 90-72 comeback victory. The junior then had the best game of his collegiate career in the Gusties' final game of the season, scoring 40 points on 76.2% shooting (16-for-21) while also leading Gustavus in rebounds with seven and assists with four at UChicago in the Sweet 16.

Barnette is the seventh All-American in the history of the Gustavus men's basketball program, joining Seth Anderson ('12), Doug Espenson ('05), Tim Brown ('03, '04), Mark Hanson ('82, '83), Jim Springer ('56), and John Patzwald ('54, '55).
