Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Jordan Benson, Sports Information Director

No. 19 Men’s Tennis Sweeps St. Olaf 7-0, Defeats Augustana 5-2

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 19 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team battled the St. Olaf College Oles and the Augustana University Vikings on Saturday. The Gusties swept the Oles 7-0 and defeated the Vikings 5-2 to improve to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC.
 
Match One: St. Olaf
 
The Gusties won all three doubles matches to open the day. Gage Gohl and Tyler Haddorff took the #1 match 6-1. Noah Hakim and Owen Skanse won #2 doubles 6-3. Joseph Li and Quinn Monson wrapped up the doubles sweep with a 7-5 victory.
 
In singles, Gohl rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) win at #1. Dominik Knutson took #2 singles 6-2, 6-0. Hakim earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at #3 singles. Monson won 6-2, 6-3 at #4 singles. Skanse nearly swept #5 singles 6-0, 6-1. Yash Bahalkar closed out the 7-0 match sweep for Gustavus with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at #6 singles.
 
Match Two: Augustana
 
In the evening match, Gohl and Haddorff won their second #1 doubles match of the day with a 6-3 victory. Knutson and Takura Mhwandagara followed with a 6-3 win of their own at the #2 match to secure the doubles team point for the Gusties. Hakim and Skanse earned a 7-6 victory at the #3 doubles.
 
Knutson earned the second point for Gustavus with a 6-1, 6-2 win at #2 singles. Haddorff followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at #3 singles to earn the third point for the Gusties. Deuce Daniel clinched the match for Gustavus with a 6-4, 6-4 win at #4 singles, securing the fourth team point.
 
The Vikings followed with wins at #1 and #6 singles to take two points, but Luke Fridinger closed out the match with a victory for the Gusties, securing their fifth team point with a 7-6, 6-4 victory at #5 singles.

Gustavus will compete in a pair of MIAC road matches on Saturday, March 28. Half the team will travel to battle the Hamline University Pipers at 12:30pm while the other half will take on the Saint Mary's University Cardinals at 1:30pm.
