SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team battled the Carleton College Knights on Saturday in a battle between the last two remaining undefeated teams in conference play in the MIAC standings. The Gusties handed the Knights their first MIAC loss of the year in a 6-1 victory as Gustavus improved to 14-9 overall and remain perfect atop the conference at 7-0.
Noah Hakim and
Owen Skanse swept #3 doubles 6-0 for the Gusties.
Gage Gohl and
Tyler Haddorff then clinched the doubles team point for Gustavus with a 6-2 win at #1.
Dominik Knutson and
Takura Mhwandagara added a 7-5 win at #2 doubles.
Quinn Monson gave the Gusties a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #6 singles.
Luke Fridinger followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at #5 singles. Knutson clinched the fourth team point to secure the win for Gustavus with a 6-1, 6-4 final at #2 singles.
Haddorff earned a fifth point for the Gusties with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #3 singles. Gohl added a 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) victory in the #1 match. The Knights took #4 singles to avoid the team sweep, but Gustavus nonetheless secured the win 6-1 to give Carleton their first MIAC loss of the season.
Up next for the Gusties is a pair of home matches on Sunday, April 19, starting with a non-conference battle against the Bethany Lutheran Vikings at 9:00 a.m. and then a MIAC showdown against the Macalester College Scots at 4:00 p.m.
