SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team battled the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings and the Macalester College Scots on Sunday. The Gusties swept both teams 7-0 to improve to 16-9 overall and 8-0 in the MIAC.
Match One: Bethany Lutheran
Joseph Li and
Ali Derbani opened the day with a 6-3 win at #3 doubles.
Aadityaa Juniwal and
Luke Fridinger followed with a 6-4 win at #2 doubles to secure the first team point of the match for Gustavus.
Yash Bahalkar and
Ethan Ellor closed doubles with a 7-6 win at the #1 match.
Noah Hakim won #1 singles 6-1, 6-1 to earn a second team point for the Gusties. Juniwal followed with a 6-0, 6-4 win at #6 singles to put Gustavus up 3-0. Skanse clinched the team win for the Gusties with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #2 singles.
Bahalkar won #3 singles 6-1, 7-5. Li took #4 singles 7-6, 6-4. Derbani completed the team sweep for Gustavus by rallying for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 marathon win at #5 singles.
Match Two: Macalester
Hakim and Skanse won #3 doubles 6-2 to open the second match of the day.
Dominik Knutson and
Takura Mhwandagara secured the doubles team point for the Gusties with a 6-1 win at the #2 match.
Gage Gohl and
Tyler Haddorff wrapped up doubles with a 6-3 win at #1.
Mhwandagara took #5 singles 6-1, 6-1 for Gustavus' second team point. Knutson won #2 singles 6-3, 6-2 as the Gusties went up 3-0. Gohl nearly swept #1 singles 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the team win for Gustavus.
Haddorff won #3 singles 6-1, 6-0.
Quinn Monson took #6 singles 6-1, 6-3. Fridinger closed out the day with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #4 singles as the Gusties completed their second sweep.
