SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team battled the Bethel University Royals on Friday in their regular season finale. The Gusties defeated the Royals 6-1 to complete an undefeated conference season and win the MIAC Championship for the second year in a row and 32
nd time in program history.
Molly Austin and
Lanie Davis opened the match with a 6-2 victory at #2 doubles.
Ella De Young and
Allison Szalay followed with a 7-5 win at #3 doubles to clinch the doubles team point for Gustavus. Bethel took the #1 doubles match, but it earned them no points.
Austin put the Gusties up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3 singles. De Young then took #5 singles 6-0, 6-2 to bring Gustavus to within one point of securing both the match and the regular season title.
Noor Omar clinched the match-winning fourth team point and the MIAC Championship victory for the Gusties with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at #4 singles.
The Royals took #1 singles to avoid the sweep, but
Lanie Davis followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win at #6 singles for a fifth Gustavus team point.
Kaya De Bruijn closed out the 6-1 Gustie victory with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win at #2 singles.
Up next for Gustavus is the 2026 MIAC Women's Tennis Playoffs beginning next week. The Gusties, having earned the No. 1 seed in the postseason, will have a bye through Tuesday's quarterfinals and prepare to take on the lowest-remaining seed on Thursday, April 30 in the semifinals at home at the Wilkinson Tennis Complex. The semifinal winners will advance to the championship match to be played on Saturday, May 2 at the home court of the highest remaining seed.
