NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships started with the heptathlon on Thursday and after the first day of competition, the two Gusties competing sit in ninth and 11th place.Â
The 100-meter hurdles was the first event of the day at Carleton, where sophomore
Emily Podulke (Hastings, Minn.) finished third, running a time of 15.48 and senior
Maddox Lee (Hugo, Minn.) ended 11th with a 16.48. Lee's time was good for a personal best in her senior season, running with a .9 m/s tailwind.Â
The second event of the day was the high jump, where Lee moved up one spot by scoring 599 points with a 1.48m clearance, followed behind by Podulke with a 1.42m mark to move down to eighth. The third event and final event in the field of the day was the shot put, where Lee continued to climb, this time up one spot into ninth, throwing a 9.82m for fifth place in the event to score 518 points. Podulke moved down three spots with a 7.48m heave to finish 16th in the event.Â
The last event of the day was the 200-meter, where Podulke got eighth, running a 26.83, just .01 behind her personal best to score 726 points and end Day 1 at 2405 total. Lee finished 10th, crossing in 27.28, ending the day in ninth at 2463 points. The 200-meter did not improve either's position, sitting in their respective spots before and after the event.Â
Competition continues tomorrow with the long jump, scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start.Â
