PELLA, Iowa - The multi-event group representing Gustavus track & field rounded off the Central Spring Multi on Thursday, led by senior
Connor McCormick (Stillwater, Minn.) and sophomore
Emily Podulke (Hastings, Minn.).
Heading into Day 2 of the heptathlon, Podulke sat in fifth place, while seniors
Maddox Lee (Hugo, Minn.) and
Grace Banse (Mankato, Minn.) were slotted in eighth and tenth place, respectively. The day started with the long jump, which was led by Lee, jumping 4.93 meters to score 540 points. In the next event, the javelin, Banse led the group, heaving a 24.93 meter mark to score 381 points and move up to a 2491 total. Lee led once again in the 800-meter, finishing in a time of 2:31.77 for third place in the event and to cement her spot in ninth place.
Podulke ended as the top finisher for the Gusties in seventh with a score of 3805, while Lee followed behind in ninth with a 3702 mark and Banse rounded off the marks for Gustavus, scoring a 2877 to end up in 10th.
As for the men, McCormick was in 10th after the first five events, while first-year
Amos Anderson (Mankato, Minn.) was in 12th and sophomore
Alex Palmer (Albert Lea, Minn.) started Day 2 in 14th.
McCormick led in the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.86 time to score 749 points, while Anderson scored 688 points with a 28.94 meter heave in the discus. In the pole vault, Anderson and McCormick both put up strong numbers, getting over the 4.25 mark. In the last two events of the day, the javelin and the 1500-meter, McCormick led for the team, starting with a third-place finish in the javelin to score 509 more points and got sixth in the 1500-meter to move up two spots into sixth place.
Overall, McCormick led the group with a sixth-place finish (6117), followed by Anderson in ninth place (5837) and Palmer in 14th (5057). McCormick's score ranks second in the MIAC now, followed closely behind by Anderson.
Gustie track is back in action on Saturday, traveling to Bethel's Gene Glader Classic.
