SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Gustavus men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Friday night for what turned out to be a true Augustana Twilight that led to nine total personal bests. 

In the men's race, sophomore Caden Riga (Belle Plaine, Minn.) led the group and the team's scoring, crossing the finish line of the 5k course in 16:29.8 for 135th place. First-year Matthew Jenneke (Maple Grove, Minn.) finished in 156th with a time of 16:42.2, followed closely behind by his older brother, Luke Jenneke, at 16:43.5. The final two scorers were sophomore Ray Anderson (Edina, Minn.) with a time of 16:49.5 and junior Matthew Berge (Eden Prairie, Minn.), clocking a 16:50.8 time. Those five times were good for 527 points and a 16th place finish in the Augustana Twilight, finishing third of all Division III schools and topping multiple Division II opponents. 

There were six personal bests on the men's side, first by Riga and L. Jenneke. The four personal bests outside of scoring came from juniors Ethan Cox (North Mankato, Minn.) and Matthew Trzynka (Maple Grove, Minn.) with times of 17:10.2 and 17:11.2 along with the sophomore duo of Logan Jandro (Minnetrista, Minn.) at 17:35.2 and Odin Foote (Minneapolis, Minn.), who crossed in 18.22.2. 

The women's team started their season strong, finishing in 14th amongst all teams, the first in Division III, and topped multiple Division II teams. Sophomore Siiri Anderson (Duluth, Minn.) crossed first for the Gusties and 66th overall with a time of 19.14.9 and classmate Addison Enfield (Northfield, Minn.) followed just 1.2 seconds behind her in 19:16.1 for 69th place. Fellow sophomore Anna Forbord (Northfield, Minn.) was the third scorer for the Gusties, running a 19:44.8 in the 5k. Senior Laura Sunnarborg (Minnetrista, Minn.) and a fourth sophomore, Anna Gould (Amery, Wis.) were the last two scorers, ending in 20:13.1 and 20:21.7, respectively. The sophomore class showed their depth overall, being responsible for four of the five scoring sports and the top five averaged a 19:47 time, while the spread from first to fifth was 1:07. 

Sophomore Gabbie Boevers (Faribault, Minn.) and senior Emily Dehn (De Pere, Wis.) also joined in on the party in the twilight, setting new personal bests at the meet. Boevers crossed in 21:14.3 for 214th place and Dehn was just over a minute behind in 22:22.2. 

Both teams will now wait two weeks to compete, running in the St. Olaf Invitational on September 19th, which will start the first of five potential trips to Northfield this season.
