SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team will take on the Bethel University Royals on Friday, May 1 at 3:30 p.m. at the Wilkinson Tennis Complex in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoff Semifinals.

The Gusties are the No. 1 seed in the conference postseason after sweeping their MIAC opponents 9-0 this season as part of their 17-9 overall record. This spring, Gustavus clinched their 56th overall and 37th consecutive MIAC Regular Season Championship.
With an undefeated season against conference opponents, the Gusties improved their all-time record in MIAC regular season games to 595-3. Gustavus has only lost three of their 598 MIAC regular season games in their program's history: two in 1966 and one in 1985.
Gage Gohl leads the Gusties, going 18-12 overall with a nine #1 singles wins while going 5-0 at the top match in the conference.
Dominik Knutson follows, going 20-8 overall with a 14-3 record at #2 singles.

The Royals earned the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament, going 6-3 against MIAC opponents in the regular season. Bethal took on St. Olaf in the playoff quarterfinals on Tuesday, defeating the Oles 4-1 to advance to the semifinals. The Royals are led by Carter Sheard at #1 singles with a 15-5 overall record, going 5-3 in the conference. Dylan Magistad follows at #2 singles, going 12-8 overall and 3-5 in the MIAC.
MATCHUP HISTORY
Gustavus previously faced the Royals this season in their home opener on February 13. Gustavus swept Bethel 7-0 in that match.
The Gusties started strong out the gate in that victory over the Royals, sweeping doubles.
Luke Fridinger and
Noah Hakim finished first with a decisive 6-1 win. Knutson and
Takura Mhwandagara at #2 doubles finished next with a dominate 6-2 performance. Finally, former NCAA DIII National Doubles Champions Haddorff and Gohl closed out doubles at #1 with a 6-2 win.
After starting up 1-0, the Gusties didn't slow down in the singles. Hakim at #6 singles swept his opponent 6-1, 6-1 in just over an hour. Mwandagara and Knutson finished next, both winning 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the match for the Gusties. With the match decided, the Gusties continued to dominate by winning the final three matches all in straight sets.
CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY
Friday's two semifinal winners will meet on Saturday, May 2 in the 2026 MIAC Men's Tennis Playoff Championship at the home court of the highest remaining seed. If there is a doubleheader with the same institution hosting both men's and women's championships, the men's match will start at 3:30 p.m.; if not, it will be at 1:00 p.m. The MIAC Playoff champion will receive the playoff championship trophy and the conference's automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament.
