SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team battled the Carleton College Knights on Saturday at the Wilkinson Tennis Complex in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoff Championship.
The Gusties swept the Knights 4-0 to win their 15
th consecutive and 18
th all-time MIAC postseason title, moving to 19-9 overall this spring.
Dominik Knutson and
Takura Mhwandagara started the day off with a 6-1 victory at #2 doubles for Gustavus.
Gage Gohl and
Tyler Haddorff followed with a 7-6 win at #1 doubles, securing the first team point of the match for the Gusties.
Knutson kept up the momentum for Gustavus, winning #2 singles 6-1, 6-1 for the second Gustie point of the match.
Quinn Monson followed with a matching 6-1, 6-1 win at #6 singles, putting Gustavus up 3-0 and just one point away from the title.
Luke Fridinger clinched the MIAC Playoff Championship for the Gusties, finishing off the 4-0 team sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at #5 singles.
Up next for Gustavus is the NCAA DIII Championship as they secured the MIAC's automatic bid to the national tournament with their postseason title. The Gusties will find out what their national postseason path will look like on Monday.
