CHICAGO – The No. 22 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team battled the No. 10 Kenyon College Owls on Friday at the Stagg Tennis Courts in the second round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. The Gusties took the doubles point but the Owls found success in singles as Gustavus fell 4-1 to Kenyon.
Gage Gohl and
Tyler Haddorff took #1 doubles for the Gusties in a 6-3 victory.
Noah Hakim and
Owen Skanse clinched the first team point of the match for Gustavus with an identical 6-3 win at #3 doubles. The #2 doubles match was halted at the clinch, in which
Dominik Knutson and
Takura Mhwandagara were tied 5-5 with Kenyon.
The Owls started to rally in singles, taking the first set of all six matches. Gohl rallied from a 2-6 opening set loss to take set two 6-4 and led 4-2 in the third when the match was clinched by Kenyon. Haddorff likewise had been rallying, bouncing back from a 6-7 (9-11) loss in the first set to lead 4-2 in the second. However, the Owls won each of the other four singles matches to rally and win the match 4-1.
The Gusties closed out their team competition this season with a 20-10 overall record. In the MIAC, Gustavus won all nine matches to clinch their 56
th overall and 37
th consecutive MIAC Regular Season Championship, improving their all-time record in conference regular season games to 595-3. In the conference postseason, the Gusties won their 15th consecutive and 18th all-time MIAC postseason title.
Though their team competition has closed, three Gusties are still set to compete in the NCAA Individual Championships starting May 23. The duo of Gohl and Haddorff will compete for a chance to win their second national doubles title in their careers while Gohl and Knutson will compete in the singles tournament.
