BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Owen Skanse of the No. 23 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Skanse and the Gusties competed in the Augustana Invite this past weekend against NCAA Division I and II competition, winning two of his singles matches and a doubles match. The junior won his opening quarterfinal match of the invite, rallying for a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) victory over Ilan Fuentes: a DII athlete from Nebraska-Kearney. Skanse later won an 8-3 pro set singles victory over Maxime Grunig: a DI athlete from Creighton. In doubles, the sophomore paired up with
Noah Hakim to win a 6-3 doubles victory over Pedro Pinto and Will Koziara: a DII team from Augustana.
Up next for Gustavus is the ITA Midwest Regional Championships that they host from Friday, October 2 through Monday, October 5 on their home courts in Saint Peter.
