DULUTH, Minn. - The Gustavus men's hockey team suffered its third consecutive loss Saturday, losing 4-3 at No. 14 St. Scholastica. The Gusties drop to 2-3-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the MIAC, while the Saints remain undefeated at 5-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the league.Â
St. Scholastica got the scoring going just 1:12 into the game and held the lead for nearly 17 minutes before
Grant Ellings tied it up with the help of
Wilmer Svensson at the 18:04 mark and the score remained 1-1 at the first break.Â
The Saints took advantage of a power play 16:13 into the second period and maintained a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. The Gusties once again answered. this tim 11:23 into the third as
Marc Fletemeyer scored his first career goal on an assist from
Porter Haney.Â
St. Scholastica regained the lead for good three minutes later and then went up 4-2 with less than four minutes remaining in the game. Svennson made it a 4-3 game with 12 seconds left in regulation with the help of
Kylar Fenton and
Joey Gimberlin, but not enough time was left for the Gusties to tie it up.Â
Gustavus more than doubled St. Scholastica's shot total at 36-15 but that did not translate in its favor on the scoreboard.
Marko Belak made 11 saves in goal.Â
The Gusties face off against bethel next weekend for another MIAC home-and-home series.Â
