SAINT PETER, Minn. - Gustavus and No. 10 UW-Eau Claire played more than 50 minutes of scoreless hockey Saturday night until the floodgates opened for the visitors in the final 10 minutes as the Blugolds scored four goals in a 4-0 decision. The Gusties drop their first game of the season and are now 2-1-1 while the Blugolds are 3-0-0.
The first goal came at the 10:13 mark of the third frame, which led to the second score just 1:24 later. Another Blugold goal was scored at the 13:02 mark and the game was sealed with an empty-netter in the final 20 seconds.
Marko Belak made 22 saves before allowing the first goal. He finished the night with 25 stops and three goals allowed.
Jack Anderson and
Hunter Newhouse led the offensive pressure with four shots each.
Gustavus begins MIAC play Thursday at home against St. Scholastica.
