MEQUON, Wis. - Three third period goals broke a 1-1 tie Friday night as Gustavus men's hockey defeated Concordia-Wisconsin 4-1 in game one of a non-conference series. The Gusties improve to 6-4-2 while the Falcons drop to 3-7-0.Â
After a scoreless first period,
Drew Holt scored unassisted seven minutes into the second period. Nearly six minutes later, Concordia-Wisconsin took advantage of a power play to net the equalizer and the score remained 1-1 after 40 minutes.Â
Two minutes into the third period,
Nate Stone and
Jack Suchy found
Jack Anderson for what proved to be game-winning goal. With less than five minutes remaining, Holt scoref his second goal of the game and fourth of the season, assisted by
Grant Ellings and
Jack Kubitz. And with three seconds on the clock,
Marc Fletemeyer sealed the game with an empty-netter.Â
The Falcons outshot the Gusties 34-26 as
Marko Belak turned away a season-high 33 shots. The Gusties went 0-for-4 on the power play and killed off four of five Falcon advantages.Â
Gustavus and Concordia-Wisconsin wrap up the series at 3 p.m. Saturday in Mequon.Â
