RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The Gustavus men's hockey team Saturday dropped a back-and-forth non-conference game at UW-River Falls 4-3. The Gusties move to 7-8-2 overall, while the Falcons improve to 10-6-0.Â
River Falls struck first three minutes into the game and held the advantage until the 13:28 mark as
Hunter Newhouse and
Drew Holt connected with
Jack Anderson for his second score of the season. Two minutes later,
Jack Suchy assisted on
Wilmer Svensson's fourth goal of the year and the Gusties carried a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.Â
The second period was all River Falls as it scored three times, taking a 4-2 lead into the third. With 3:14 left in regulation,
Nate Stone tallied his team-leading sixth goal of the season with the help of
Luke Delzer and
Jack Kubitz. The Gusties pulled goalie
Marko Belak with 1:13 on the clock and had two scoring opportunities with shots from Suchy and Stone, but couldn't net the equalizer.Â
Gustavus outshot River Falls 27-20 with Belak making 16 saves. The Gusties played a clean game, taking just one penalty and did not go on the penalty kill once.Â
The Gusties have four conference series remaining on their schedule, starting with Augsburg next weekend. Friday night's game in Minneapolis starts at 7 p.m.Â
