SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Gustavus men's hockey team lost 5-2 Friday night at UW-Superior, dropping to 7-7-2 overall.
The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, scoring at the 3:33 and 7:42 marks. The Gusties responded five minutes later on a power play.
Jack Suchy found
Connor Mahony, who tallied his team-leading sixth goal of the season and the home team carried a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.Â
UW-Superior then went ahead 4-1 in the second with another pair of goals at the 7:02 and 12:32 marks. Fifty-one seconds into the third period, the Yellowjackets took advantage of a power play and gained a comfortable 5-1 advantage.Â
The final score of the game came at the 5:30 mark of the third as
Luke Delzer and
Hunter Newhouse assisted on
Joey Gimberlin's first goal of the season.Â
Superior outshot the Gusties 27-22 as
Will Pinney made 22 saves.Â
Gustavus continues non-conference action Saturday night at UW-River Falls.Â
