SAINT PETER, Minn. - The Gustavus men's hockey team watched a 2-0 third period lead turn into a 3-2 loss Friday night against Concordia-Wisconsin at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak as the Gusties drop to 6-4 overall.
After a scoreless first period, the Gusties took the first lead of the game 8:45 into the second as
Wilmer Svensson scored with the help of
Drew Holt and
Kylar Fenton. Four minutes later,
Hunter Newhouse put the Gusties up 2-0, assisted by
Jack Suchy, and the home team went into the second intermission with a two-goal advantage.
The Falcons ended the shutout in the first minute of the third period, scoring on a power play. The Gusties maintained a one-goal lead for a majority of the third, but the visitors tied it up with under minutes on clock and then used their momentum to score the go-ahead goal with 2:50 remaining.
Gustavus pulled goalie
Marko Belak in the final minute and had a couple shots with the extra skater, but couldn't find the back of the net.
The Gusties were unsuccessful on three power plays, while the Falcons went 1-for-4 on the man-advantage. The Gusties edged the Falcons in shots on goal, 27-26, as Belak made 23 saves.
Gustavus and Concordia-Wisconsin close out the non-conference series 3 p.m. Saturday at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
