SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The Gustavus men's hockey team got off the schneid Saturday at Hamline, winning 5-2 to snap a seven-game losing streak. The Gusties improve to 8-11-2 overall and 3-8-1 in the MIAC with two conference series remaining in the regular season.Â
The Gusties opened the scoring 3:12 into the game as
Artem Korolev found
Jac Triemert for his fifth goal of the season. It appeared the Gusties were headed into the first intermission with a one-goal lead before the Pipers netted the equalizer with 23 seconds remaining in the period.Â
Gustavus got back on top 8:34 into the second. Triemert was on the passing end of
Marc Fletemeyer's third goal of the season. Two minutes later,
Connor Mahony scored unassisted and the Gusties went into the second intermission up 3-1. Mahony tallied his seventh goal of the season, which is tied for the team lead.Â
The Pipers cut the lead in half with a goal 9:14 into the third, but Korolev responded for the Gusties at the 13:23 mark to regain a two-goal lead.
Jack Suchy assisted on Korolev's third goal of the season.Â
With under two minutes to play, Hamline pulled its goalie and Fletemeyer took advantage with an empty netter, assisted by Korolev and
Christian Miller.Â
The Gusties outshot the Pipers 41-38 as
Jackson Hjelle picked up the win in goal with 36 saves, marking his second highest total of the season. Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power play.Â
Gustavus will host Concordia for a pair of games at Don Roberts Ice Rink next weekend. Friday's game starts at 7 p.m. and Saturday's at 2 p.m.Â
