WATERVILLE, Maine. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's hockey team battled the Colby College Mules on the east coast Sunday afternoon. The Gusties tied the Mules 1-1 but ended the game with a shootout victory.
After a scoreless opening period, Colby scored the first goal of the game five minutes into the second frame. The Gusties tied the game later in the period as
Wilmer Svensson scored with
Nick Blood assisting to even the score at 1-1.
Neither team managed to score through the remainer of regulation and an overtime period, sending the game to a shootout. The Mules missed their first attempt while Svensson made the first shot for Gustavus to put the Gusties up 1-0. After both teams missed their second attempts, Colby made their third to even the shootout score.
Charlie Sandven scored on the ensuing Gustavus attempt to win the shootout 2-1 for the Gusties.
Gustavus had 46 shots on goal to Colby's 26 in the game.
Colin Androlewicz had 25 saves in goal for the Gusties.
Up next for the Gusties is a return to Minnesota to take on Augsburg University on Friday, December 5 on the road at 7:00 p.m.
