MINNEAPOLIS – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's hockey team battled Augsburg University Auggies on the road Friday night in a conference contest. The Gusties earned a 4-3 win in overtime as
Emil Samuelsson scored a game-winner in the final minute of the extra frame.
Gustavus jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period as
Jayar Luedke scored his second goal of the season.
Ludvig Mellgren assisted Luedke with the goal.
Jack Anderson doubled the Gusties' lead five minutes into the second period, scoring his first goal of the season. Mellgren and
Wilmer Svensson assisted Anderson on the goal.
The Auggies tied the game up at 2-2 with a pair of goals scored late in the second period less than three minutes apart.
Svensson regained the lead for the Gusties midway through the third period, scoring with an assist from
Nick Blood to put Gustavus back on top 3-2.
Augsburg scored an equalizer in the final minute of the third period to tie the game up at 3-3.
In overtime, Samuelsson scored his game winner with just 29 seconds remaining to power Gustavus to a 4-3 victory.
Jack Anderson, and
Grant Ellings assisted with the game-winner. The goal was Samuelsson's second of the season.
