SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's hockey team battled Augsburg University Auggies at home Saturday night in a conference contest. The Gusties took down the Auggies 4-1 to complete the weekend series sweep following their 4-3 win on Friday, improving their record to 4-2 against MIAC opponents.
Wilmer Svensson put the Gusties up 1-0 halfway through the first period, scoring with
Kyle Doll and
Drew Holt assisting.
Gustavus held that 1-0 lead all the way into the third period until Augsburg scored an equalizer with 15 minutes remaining.
Just 95 seconds after the Auggies tied the game,
Jackson McCarthy scored to regain the lead for the Gusties up 2-1.
Grant Ellings and Holt assisted with what would end up being the game-winning goal by McCarthy.
Gustavus doubled their lead with just 80 seconds remaining in the game as
Hunter Newhouse scored with assistance from
Ludvig Mellgren and Holt to put the Gusties up 3-1.
In the final minute,
Emil Samuelsson scored one more Gustavus goal to put the Gusties up 4-1 and secure the win.
Colin Androlewicz led the Gusties in net, saving 24 shots on goal to earn the win.
Up next for the Gusties is a non-conference home series against the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons starting on Saturday, December 13 at 7:00 p.m.
