BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The 2024-25 academic year in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was owned by Gustavus Adolphus College. The Gusties claimed both the George Durenberger Trophy and Pat Wiesner Trophy as winners of the MIAC Men's and Women's All-Sports Competitions, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Gustavus has now won four straight Wiesner Trophies (nine overall) for women's sports, while the Durenberger Trophy for men's sports returns to Saint Peter for the first time since 2003-04 (fifth overall). Gustavus is now just one of two MIAC institutions to win both the men's and women's all-sports competitions in the same academic year, and the only current member of the conference to achieve the feat.
In men's sports, the Gusties totaled 87 points and won regular season titles in soccer, swimming & diving, basketball, hockey, tennis, and baseball. Although MIAC playoff championships don't count towards the final tally, the Gusties also won postseason titles in baseball, hockey, and tennis.
In women's sports, the Gusties totaled 100.5 points and won regular season titles in volleyball, basketball, swimming & diving, tennis, and outdoor track & field. Again, not counting towards the final numbers, the Gustie women also won playoff championships in basketball and tennis.
Between the MIAC regular season and playoffs, Gustavus had its best year in school history with a total of 16 conference championships.
The MIAC All-Sports competition takes a comprehensive look at each institution's performance within the Conference to award an overall champion for each gender. The men's competition began in 1963-64, with the women's competition being added in 1983-84. Starting in the 2003-2004 season, first-place points were ruled to be determined by the number of teams participating in each sport. Second-place, third-place, et cetera, receive points in descending order, based on the first-place point total. Ties in the standings result in the two teams tied sharing the points equally for all tied spots in the standings.
