Swim & Dive Celebrates Senior Day with Wins over Saint John’s, Saint Ben’s

SAINT PETER, Minn. - The Gustavus Adolphus College swimming and diving teams celebrated their Senior Day on Saturday as the men battled the Saint John's University Johnnies and the women took on the College of Saint Benedict Bennies. Both Gustie squads were victorious, winning 173-126 against the Johnnies and 191-107 over the Bennies.
 
Gusties vs. Johnnies
 
Mason Deitering had the top finish for Gustavus in the 1000 and 500 freestyles, placing second in both with times of 10:21.84 and 4:59.01 respectively. Braden Ripken had the top Gustie time in both the 200 freestyle and 50 freestyle, winning the 100 (47.72) and placing second in the 50 (21.82). Aidynn Havermann led Gustavus in the 200 freestyle, finishing as the runner-up just 0.04 seconds behind the winner with a time of 1:46.65.
 
Declan Vahey and Matthew Lillejord placed first and second respectively in the 100 backstroke with times of 53.53 and 56.96. Havermann led Gustavus with a 2:00.01 in the 200 backstroke, winning the event with Josh Wallin following right after at 2:01.13.
 
Brandon Wilcek won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.09. Mason Cote swam the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.81 to place second, leading the Gusties.
 
Jacob Robischon won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:00.92 and Britton Patee was the runner-up at 2:02.28. Aiden Carlson and Robischon were first and second in the 100 butterfly, finishing with times of 53.46 and 54.02 respectively.
 
Havermann led Gustavus in the 400 IM, placing second with a time of 4:16.39.
 
Trevor Johnson led the Gusties in the diving events, placing third in the 3-meter (307.00) and fourth in the 1-meter (347.85).
 
Gustavus won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.38. They also took first in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing in 3:11.44.
 
Gusties vs. Bennies
 
Geneva Fackler won the 1000 freestyle, placing first with a time of 11:20.71 while Teresa Gatti followed as the runner-up at 11:25.80. Fackler also won the 500 freestyle at 5:30.09, just 0.21 seconds faster than Emmi Heers, and had the top Gustavus time in the 100 freestyle at 55.51, placing second by just 0.25 seconds. Leah Felton led Gustavus in the 200 freestyle, placing second by just 0.41 seconds with a time of 2:00.50. Katelyn Siers placed second in the 50 freestyle, leading the Gusties at 25.34.
 
Gatti won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:16.93 and Kendall Coppersmith was the runner-up at 2:18.64. Joely Anderson swam the 100 backstroke in 1:02.39 to win the event, followed by Gatti in second at 1:03.53.
 
Lindsay Sundby led the Gusties in the 100 breaststroke, finishing as the runner-up with a time of 1:12.43. Sundby also had the top Gustavus time in the 200 breaststroke, placing third at 2:39.62.
 
Madison Witte won the 100 butterfly for Gustavus with a time of 1:01.65, followed closely by Stella Anderson Moye at 1:02.67. Hadley Wartner finished the 200 butterfly in second place, leading Gustavus in the event at 2:28.14.
 
Annika Beck won the 400 IM in 4:53.35, followed by Sommer Krause as the runner-up in 5:01.27.
 
Gabriella Stoudt won both the 3-meter dive and 1-meter dive, winning with scores of 437.00 and 438.40 respectively. Erin Hall was the runner-up in the 1-meter with a score of 416.60. Both of Stoudt's winning dives and Hall's runner-up dive were NCAA qualifying scores.
 
The Gusties won both relays, taking the 200 medley relay in 1:52.24 and the 400 freestyle relay in 3:41.85.
