Women’s Golf in 4th Place after Opening Day of MIAC Championship

10/2/2026 10:43:00 PM

EDINA, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women's golf team is competing in the MIAC Championship this weekend at the Braemar Golf Course in Edina. After the opening day of the three-round tournament, the Gusties stand in 4th place out of the field of nine conference teams with a first round score of +20.

"Solid start today for the ladies," said Gustavus head coach Scott Moe. "I think it was inside our top 10 for low score in conference tournament. We got off to a really good start and finished strong, just need to clean up a couple things early in the back nine which we talked about and feel good about going into tomorrow."

St. Catherine leads the MIAC after the opening round with a team score of +6. Macalester follows as the standing runner-up at +14. Carleton stands just one stroke ahead of Gustavus in third place at +19. St. Olaf follows the Gusties after day one with a score of +25 to round out the top five.

Addison Longie had the best first round score for Gustavus, shooting +1 to stand in sixth place overall out the field of 45 conference golfers. Caylin Cantwell of St. Kate's leads the championship after shooting -5 through the first 18.

Karina Johnson follows for the Gusties, shooting +4 to tie for 11th overall. Riley Zebroski had the third score for Gustavus with a round of +7, tying for 21st overall. Teckla Wahlstrand had the fourth and final counted score of the first round, shooting +8 to tie for 27th overall. Annika Johnson had an opening day round of +10, tying for 32nd overall.

"Our conference is really deep with some very strong teams," said Moe. "I like where we sit right now and very excited for the next two days. Some good scores today with four scores at 80 or better, Addy finishing Birdie Birdie for 73 and Karina throwing up a 76 were much needed scores. All five were solid today, looking forward to seeing it again tomorrow."

Up next for the Gusties is round two of the MIAC Women's Golf Championship on Saturday, October 3. The round begins at 11:00 a.m. with the first Gustavus tee time set for 11:50 a.m. and the final Gustie group set for a 12:30 p.m. start.
