2/20/2026 11:23:00 PM

MANKATO, Minn. - The Gustavus track & field team set 39 personal records on Friday night in the Myers Field House, competing against multiple Division II and Division III teams at the Maverick Open, hosted by No. 5 Minnesota State.

In the field on the women's side, long jump started the day, where first-year Kaylee Hawks (Prior Lake, Minn.) led the Gusties in 20th place with a leap of 5.01 meters. Senior Maddox Lee (Hugo, Minn.) and junior Camille Finney (Grand Forks, N.D.) both vaulted over 3.05m (10' 0") to finish 11th in pole vault, while high jump continued to be a strong spot for sophomore standout Kayla Kajer (Lake Elmo, Minn.) who finished second after clearing 1.59m (5' 2.5"), only behind a Division II opponent. Gustavus continued with the success from first-years with Morgan Akason (Lakeville, Minn.) who was one of two Division III entrants to make the finals in shot put, surrounded by some of the Midwest's best in Division II throughout the day. Women's weight throw finished with a 13.73 top mark by junior Rebecca Hoffman (Grand Meadow, Minn.) to round out the women's field events.

On the men's side in the field, senior Spencer Pearson (Rochester, Minn.) was the highlight of the day, finishing sixth in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 12.66m and putting himself in 15th place in the conference, which, as of now, would qualify him for the MIAC championships. Three athletes set personal records in the men's weight throw to start the meet, while sophomore Kyler Flunker (Mankato, Minn.) eclipsed 1.87m (6' 1.5") in the high jump and first-year Amos Anderson (Mankato, Minn.) led in long jump to round out the jumps. Both sophomore Alex Palmer and senior Connor McCormick (Stillwater, Minn.) were held at bay by the bar in pole vault after getting over 4.23m (13' 10.5") and freshman Carter Will (Bloomfield, Minn.) led in shotput, finishing 14th.

For the women on the track, senior Isabel Fynboh (Morris, Minn.) and first-year Katja Wallin (Arden Hills, Minn.) led the way with personal record third place finishes in the 400m and 600m, respectively. First-year Addison Enfield (Northfield, Minn.) led the distance group with a time of 3:05.79 in the 1000m and junior Mackenzie Murphy (Belle Plaine, Minn.) finished off the distance events on the night, finishing fifth in the 3000m. Sophomore Allison Stacy (Maple Grove, Minn.) led the sprint group in both the 60m and 200m, finishing 12th in the 60m with a personal record time of 7.96 and a season best time of 26.62 in the 200m. The 200m group was very strong in their final buildup to the MIAC Championships, with four runners setting personal bests and three more setting season bests. First-year Ellyn Soli (Ham Lake, Minn.) led in the 800m with a time of 2:29:24, first-year Siiri Anderson (Duluth, Minn.) led in the mile, and the 4x400 team, composed of all first-year student-athletes, finished fourth to round out the meet for the women.

The men were led by junior Nick Brauer (Mankato, Minn.) who won the 1000m with season best of 2:13.71, classmate Jade Anstine (Sioux Falls, S.D.) with a second place finish in the 60m prelims, and sophomore Conner Martens (Nicollet, Minn.) who marked a second place result in the 400m at 50.30. Martens also set a season best in the 200m at 22.59 to lead the pack, sophomore Quinn McManus (Lakeville, Minn.) finished fifth in the 600m, and first-year Logan Jandro (Minnetrista, Minn.) also finished fifth in the 800m to lead the team. In the mile, six runners reached new personal records, all finishing before the five-minute mark to round out the distance running for the team and the 4x400 team finished with a season-best time of 3:28.22 to finish third and anchor Brauer evaded a kick by an unattached team to keep the podium finish.

The Gustavus track & field team now prepares for next week, the MIAC Indoor Championships, hosted Thursday-Saturday at Carleton College.
