SAINT PETER, Minn. - Gustavus track & field hosted the Drake Alternative on Saturday, marking the last home meet of the season and student-athletes delivered, performing well at home.
For the men on the track, junior
Camden Cilek (Redwood Falls, Minn.) started the day with the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing in second with a personal-best time of 10:04.08. Senior
Hogan Smith (Decorah, Iowa) led the group in the 1500-meter, competing mostly against competitors from Luther, Smith's home town and finished with a season best of 4:14.82 for seventh. The 110-meter hurdles was the third event on the track, where first-year
Amos Anderson (Mankato, Minn.) got second, crossing in 16.33. All competitors for Gustavus in the 400-meter had season bests, including three personal bests by first-year
Anikan Larson (Slayton, Minn.), sophomore
Ty Swanson (Maple Grove, Minn.), and junior
Mohamed Mohamed (Mankato, Minn.). In the 800-meter, first-year
Logan Jandro (Minnetrista, Minn.) also had a personal best, crossing in 1:57.04, followed by a sophomore sweep by
Landon Gilbertson (Fairmont, Minn.) and
Eric Richards (Mankato, Minn.), finishing first and second in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 58.00 and 58.14. To round off the meet, the relay group of junior
Cullen Arneson (Minneapolis, Minn.), Swanson, Jandro, and first-year
Luke Scheel (Mankato, Minn.) won the 4x400-meter, crossing in 3:23.01, just .16 faster than second place.
As for the women on the track, the 4x100-meter group of sophomores
Allison Stacy (Maple Grove, Minn.) and
Laura Thauvin (Mankato, Minn.) and first-years
Sophia Vogel (Prinsburg, Minn.) and
Ava Loftness (Prior Lake, Minn.) won the event with a season-best 49.49. Sophomore
Emily Podulke (Hastings, Minn.) finished second in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing in 15.52, followed by senior
Isabel Fynboh (Morris, Minn.) getting third in the 400-meter with a 1:00.15 time. The sophomore duo of Stacy and Thauvin swept in the 100-meter, finishing in 12.47 and 12.85, respectively to lead a group that had four of the top five times in the group before the distance group for the Gusties tried their hand in the 800-meter, where first-year
Addison Enfield (Northfield, Minn.) had the best time, a 2:19.33. Stacy and Loftness ran fast times in the 200-meter as well, going 2-3 with times of 25.97 and 26.38, which were both personal best marks. The 4x400-meter ended the track events well for the women, crossing with the No. 82 mark in Division III this year with a 4:04.72.
In the field, junior
Kyler Flunker started with a win in the long jump, finding a 6.50m mark on his fifth jump to win the event. At the throws, junior
Wyatt Hudspith (Esko, Minn.) finished second, heaving a 44.19m, which was the top mark for a Division III competitor. Sophomore
Alex Palmer (Albert Lea, Minn.) rounded off the podium finishes for the men, getting third in the pole vault with a season-best 4.18m clearance.
A first-year trio swept the podium in the triple jump to start the day, with
Kaylee Hawks (Prior Lake, Minn.), Loftness, and Vogel going one through three in that order, with Hawks leaping 11.24m to grab a personal best and Division III No. 53 mark. Vogel won the long jump with a 4.98m jump and sophomore
Kayla Kajer (Lake Elmo, Minn.) also won an event, the high jump, equaling her season best with a 1.60m. Senior
Maddox Lee (Hugo, Minn.) got second in the pole vault, with a 3.29m vault and sophomore
Keira McCord (Roseville, Minn.) ended the podium finishes for the women in the field, throwing the discus 39.74m to get third.
Gustavus track & field is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Mankato for the Maverick Open.
