Connor McCormick and sophomore
Alex Palmer, traveled to St. Olaf on Wednesday for the Manitou Last Chance Multi.
The first event of the day was the 100-meter, where sophomore
Alex Palmer (Albert Lea, Minn.) placed first of the 11 competitors with a time of 11.33 seconds, while senior
Connor McCormick (Stillwater, Minn.) had the seventh fastest time, a 12.05. McCormick, coming into the day, holds the No. 21 ranked decathlon point total in the country at 6519.
The second event of the day was the long jump, where McCormick jumped 5.87 meters, the fifth furthest of the day. Palmer followed in eighth place with a 5.09 meter mark to earn 400 more points and go to 1189 total.
In the shot put, the third event, McCormick heaved a 10.31 meter mark, scoring 504 points to stay in sixth place by getting sixth in the event. Palmer placed just one spot behind in seventh with a 9.26 meter heave to score 441 points.
Palmer cleared 1.52 meters in the high jump to score 404 points and move one spot up to sixth place before running a 52.61 in the 400-meter. Palmer got fourth in the second running event of the day and added 698 points to move up to 2732 total.
The Gustie track & field team returns to action tomorrow, traveling to the UW-La Crosse Last Chance Meet to try and find qualifying marks for the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, taking place next week.
