5/22/2026 10:20:00 PM

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Senior Connor McCormick finished up his collegiate career on Friday in the decathlon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, finishing in 17th place.

Entering the second day of the event, senior Connor McCormick (Stillwater, Minn.) sat at 3104 points which put him in 21st place overall. The first event of the day was the 110-meter hurdles, one of McCormick's top events. The senior ran a 15.35 which was the eighth best time across the 20 participants starting Day 2. In the second event of the day, the discus, McCormick had a 28.54 meter mark on his second throw of the day which earned him 436 more points, up to 4348. Before a slight break in the action, McCormick competed in another one of his strongest events, the pole vault. The event was quite the roller coaster for the senior, who went down to his third attempt on three consecutive heights. After clearing 3.75 meters and 3.95 meters with no issue, the next three heights were cleared as well, but the Stillwater native added six more attempts to the wear and tear that the decathlon takes. McCormick failed to clear 4.25 meters, tying his personal best in his final time of asking.

After the small break, the javelin was the next event up, where McCormick earned 484 points. The points came from a 42.88 meter heave and was good for 16th overall in the event. The last event, the 1,500-meter, held 659 points and a 4:43.42 time for the senior, rounding off his career with a 10th place finish in the event. Overall, McCormick scored 6179 points which meant 17th place for the senior at the Championships, who came in seeded 22nd.

First-year Ava Loftness (Prior Lake, Minn.) competes for Gustavus for the final time this season tomorrow at 2:00 p.m., jumping in the triple jump.
