EDINA, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women's golf team competed in the opening round of the St. Kate's Invitational on Saturday at Braemar Golf Course. After the opening round of the two-day tournament, the Gusties stand in eighth place out of the field of 11 competing teams with a first round score of +25. The Gustavus B-team follows in 11^th place at +40.
 
"The scores certainly don't reflect the great effort that was put in by the women today," said Gustavus assistant coach Randall Stuckey. "They were very resilient in some inclement weather and hung in there. What we need tomorrow is to be totally committed and confident in our games."
 
UW-Stout leads the field with a team score of +6. Macalester, St. Catherine, and St. Olaf follow in second, third, and fourth with scores of +14, +15, and +16 respectively.
 
Addison Longie leads the Gusties after the opening round at +1. The sophomore stands tied for third place overall out of the field of 77 golfers. Julia Imai f UW-Stout leads the individual field at -6.
 
Sydney Lovick and Karina Johnson both shot +7 for the second-best Gustavus score of the A-team through the first 18, tying for 28^th overall.
 
Teckla Wahlstrand had the fourth and final counted score the Gustie A-team, shooting +10 to tie for 45^th overall.
 
Josie Bernis and Ava Martin had strong rounds for the Gustavus B-team, shooting +6 and +8 respectively.
 
Gustavus will return to the course on Sunday, September 20 for the second and final round of the St. Kate's Invite with the tee times set 12:00 p.m.
