A consummate team player and shut-down defender, Angie Peterson Potts always came through in big moments for the Gustavus women’s basketball team. After transferring to Gustavus her sophomore year, Peterson Potts went on to earn All-America honors from both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and D3hoops.com, and was named the 2003-04 Gustavus Female Athlete of the Year.
A dynamic athlete with the ability to play anywhere on the court, Peterson Potts guided the Gusties to the 2002-03 MIAC championship and an appearance at the NCAA tournament. The Northfield, Minn., native was a two-time All-Region honoree, three-time All-Conference Team member, and was twice named to the MIAC All-Defensive Team.
A selfless attitude and love of the game quickly gained Peterson Potts complete trust from her teammates as a leader. Even with a team-first approach, Peterson Potts graduated as the program record holder for points in a season (472) and three-pointers made (62). In three seasons wearing the Black and Gold, Peterson Potts posted 1,333 points (16.1 per game) and 192 steals.
After graduating magna cum laude in 2004 with a degree in elementary education, Peterson Potts earned her master’s degree in Differentiated Instruction from Concordia-St. Paul in 2009. She has received numerous other teaching certifications and is acting president of the Minnesota Middle School Board of Directors. Peterson Potts has been a K-4 STEM teacher in Saint Peter since 2011. Angie lives in Saint Peter with her husband Charlie ’01 and their twin boys, Ethan and Owen.
