Wilbur "Gloom" Lundell '29 lettered in football, basketball, baseball, track and swimming while a student at Gustavus. An All-State end in football, he is owner of the longest punt in Gustavus history - a 102 yard feat in the Gustavus-Augsburg game. He played center on the Gustavus basketball team, won high scoring honors in the conference, and was an All-State selection. He played first base in baseball on the championship team, was a discus thrower on the track team and placed in the state meet with the championship team, and was also on the swimming team.
He played pro baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals' minor league club in Laurel, Miss., and played pro football with Stapleton, L.I., New York. Following his "pro" career, he taught math at Patrick Henry High School for 40 years, retiring in 1972. He's presently living in McAllen, Texas.
