A four-year starter in the outfield for the Gustavus softball team, Mary Mansour graduated in 1985 as one of the finest players in the program’s history. She finished her career ranked first all-time in stolen bases with 17, runs scored with 65, and hits with 79, and second in batting average at .374. Adept both in the field and at the plate, Mansour finished with a career fielding percentage of .938 with 101 putouts, six assists, and seven errors. Mansour’s career coincided with the beginning of softball sponsorship in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and she became the first player amongst the 10-league schools to earn all-conference honors three times (1982, 1983, and 1984). She finished second in the MIAC in hitting in 1984 with a .462 average and graduated with the third highest career average in league history at .366. Recognized by her peers as a team leader she was selected captain in both her junior and senior seasons. Mansour helped the Gusties post second place finishes in the conference tournament in both 1982 and 1984 and she hit .500 at the league tourney in 1984 as the team nearly upset nationally rated Augsburg for the title.
A computer science and political science double major, Mansour graduated magna cum laude in 1985. She was one of the first student-athletes at Gustavus to be selected for induction into Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, Mansour accepted a position with Unisys as a programmer. In 2003, Mansour moved to FileNet to become a senior systems engineer. Her responsibilities include managing sales for the companies enterprise content management system. Mansour has continued to play softball and is also very involved in ice hockey. Mary lives in Burnsville, with her partner, Rochelle.
