With a competitive drive that helped him steadily improve during each of his four years in the Gustavus men's tennis program, David Jussila crowned his collegiate career during his senior season when he and doubles partner Ryan Skanse '92 won the 1991 NCAA Division III Doubles Championship via an upset over No. 2-seeded Tom Dailey and Steve Tignor of Swarthmore in Claremont, California.
A staple at the top of Gustavus's lineup from 1988 to 1991, Jussila consistently frustrated his opponents as a singles player and was known as one of the most cunning doubles players of his era. A three-time All- American and four-time all-conference honoree, Dave collected two MIAC singles titles at the No. 2 position in 1988 and 1989, and two MIAC doubles titles at the No. 1 position in 1989 and 1991. The Gustavus men's tennis team won three consecutive MIAC championships (1989, 1990, and 1991) and made NCAA tournament appearances in 1990 and 1991. During Jussila's tenure, Gustavus went a combined 91—34 overall and 38—0 in the MIAC.
A 1991 graduate who majored in business management and minored in English and psychology, Dave began working in the financial services industry and is currently an equity trader within the financial capital markets division of Charles Schwab in Denver, Colorado. Still an active member of the tennis community, Jussila is a PTR certified tennis professional who teaches tennis locally in Denver. He and his wife, Jane, live in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, with their children, Andrew, Kate, and Paige.
