An unflappable demeanor and superior talent on the soccer pitch made Bobby Kroog the most decorated athlete in Gustavus men’s soccer history. After registering three goals in his freshman season, Kroog exploded onto the scene during his sophomore year, tallying a conference-high 15 goals—eight of them game-winners—while helping the Gusties win the first ever MIAC playoff championship. Kroog earned All-Conference, All-Region, and Second Team All-America honors after helping the Gusties reach the second round of the NCAA tournament.
In his junior season, Kroog played a key role in the Gusties winning both the MIAC regular season and playoff titles, and advancing to the NCAA “Elite Eight.” He earned his second consecutive All-Conference, All-Region, and All-America honors as the Gusties set the school record for most wins (18) and shutouts (19) in a season. Playing for the joy of competition, Kroog was complemented well by his teammates and made everyone around him better. Kroog culminated his collegiate career by leading the Gusties to another MIAC championship and a trip all the way to the NCAA Division III championship match, falling to defending national champion Messiah, 1-0. After posting 14 goals and 31 points, Kroog earned his third consecutive All-Conference, All-Region, and All-America honors, and was named the 2005 MIAC Player of the Year. He was also honored as the 2005-06 Gustavus Male Athlete of the Year. Playing in 82 career games, Kroog’s 36 goals and 80 points both rank sixth in program history. He is also the only three-time All-American in program history.
Kroog graduated in 2006 with a major in business management. Since 2013, he has been a residential realtor with Brix Real Estate. Bobby lives in Richfield, Minn. with his wife Clare and their daughter Luca.
