Considered to be the finest running quarterback in Gustavus football history, Rick Webb helped the Golden Gusties compile a record of 21-6-1 in conference play in his four years as the starting signal-caller. A master at running the option offense, Webb carried the ball 320 times for 1,111 yards and 20 touchdowns in his career. He also completed 218 of 429 passes for 2,817 yards and 24 touchdowns. Webb ranks fifth in passing yards, 16th in rushing yards and fifth in rushing touchdowns in Gustavus football history. In his senior season, Webb was named the Most Valuable Player in the MIAC, as well as being selected to the NAIA's All-Region team and The Lutheran magazine's All-America squad.
Each spring, Webb turned his attentions to the baseball diamond where he was a three- year starter in center field. He helped the Gusties to the conference title in 1971 and finished his career with a .308 batting average.
After graduating with a degree in education, Webb taught and coached briefly before beginning his restaurant career. Rick, a resident of Edina, has brought several new restaurant concepts to Minnesota, and currently owns The Lexington Restaurant in St. Paul.
