Hall of Fame
Hanson is a three-time All-American, a seven-time MIAC All-Conference honoree, and a five-time MIAC champion. In 2010, he helped lead the Gusties to a 10th-place team finish at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships; their best in program history. That same spring, Hanson won the 800-meter national championship, was part of the 4x400 relay team that finished second at nationals, and was named the USTFCCCA Central Region Track Athlete of the Year. He also set the Gustavus program record in the outdoor 800-meter run with a time of 1:49.5, breaking a record that had stood for 40 years.
After graduating in 2010 with a major in communication studies, Hanson earned a master’s in educational psychology from the University of Colorado. In 2015, he moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, and joined the Wilmington Fire Department. He currently serves as a captain with the Vancouver, Washington, Fire Department. He lives in White Salmon, Washington, with his wife, Emma, and their son, June.
